Baskerville Brochure

During the first trimester of 2017, I received a 2 part assignment in “Typographic Fundamentals” which revolved around creating an 8 page brochure (3 spreads with front & back cover) about a typographer. Out of the choices i decided on John Baskerville.
We were provided the body copy and a few other restrictions like only using 1 colour +black & white as well as following very
strict guidelines for sizing and dimensions. We also went through the process of getting the brochure professionally printed.

My design and layouts focused on the contrast between the very classical and centered layouts of Baskervilles work with more interesting and dynamic design decisions. This was my rationale about using a bright pink all over the brochure. This contrast
can also be seen in the spreads, with the small folios and elements like page numbers, issues number etc. being much more
delicate and tasteful while the rest of the layout continues to be more experimental.

Finally, we were asked to logo for “BB Publishing”, a theoretical publishing house that would be behind publishing and distributing the brochure. This logo can be found the back cover. It once again takes direct inspiration from Baskerville’s
work while working in some modern influence as well with the overlapping letters.

(A small grey border has been added to the 3 spreads to make the dimensions of them easier to make out.)
